How to reheat: assembling a single-serve meal in minutes

In just a few basic steps, you can save money and time by putting together a satisfying, delicious meal in minutes!

Here we show you how to assemble a single-serve meal in next to no time using a range of different accompaniments. The key is to package your mains and accompaniments separately. This allows you to:

These instructions assume your main dish has already been defrosted, so allow an extra 4-6 minutes for defrosting your main dish first if needed.

The ideal microwave-safe containers are glass or ceramic ones. If using plastic, make sure the microwave-safe plastic is grade 5 or higher – check the bottom of your container first.

Serve with rice (frozen)

Total time: 5-8 minutes

  1. Defrost and heat rice simultaneously by covering and cooking on HIGH (100%) for 2-3 minutes in a microwave-safe container or on your dinner plate. Cover and set aside.

  2. Heat your (defrosted) main dish. Cover and microwave on HIGH (100%) for 2-4 minutes. Add extra vegies before heating if you like.

  3. Scoop the main dish (and extra vegies) on top of your heated rice.

  4. Add finishing touches such as fresh herbs or sour cream and serve.

Serve with couscous - fresh

Total time: 5-7 minutes

  1. Boil the kettle. Put equal amounts of couscous and boiling water in a dinner bowl. Cover and stand for 3-5 minutes.

  2. Meanwhile, heat your (defrosted) main dish. Cover and microwave on HIGH (100%) for 2-4 minutes. Add extra vegies before heating if you like.

  3. Scoop the main dish (and extra vegies) on top of your couscous.

  4. Add finishing touches such as fresh herbs or sour cream and serve.

Serve with pasta - frozen

Total time: 5-8 minutes

  1. Turn on the kettle to boil.

  2. Meanwhile, heat your (defrosted) main dish. Cover and microwave on HIGH (100%) for 2-4 minutes. Add extra vegies before heating if you like.

  3. When your dish is nearly heated, defrost your pasta and pop it in a colander. Pour boiling water over the top until the ice melts and the pasta separates. Shake well to drain off the water.

  4. Heat the pasta with your main dish. Put the pasta on a plate and top with your heated main dish, or combine pasta and main in a bowl. Heat 1-2 minutes or until warmed to your liking.

  5. Add finishing touches such as fresh herbs or sour cream and serve.

Serve with instant noodles - fresh or dried

Total time: 5-8 minutes

  1. Boil your kettle. Put a serve of instant noodles in a medium bowl. Add boiling water and cover with a plate. Allow to stand for 3-5 minutes.

  2. Meanwhile, heat your (defrosted) main dish. Cover and microwave on HIGH (100%) for 2-4 minutes. Add extra vegies before heating if you like.

  3. Check noodles. If not fully softened, microwave on HIGH (100%) for 2 minutes. Drain well.

  4. Combine your noodles and main and microwave in a covered bowl or plate HIGH (100%) for 1-2 minutes or until warmed to your liking.

  5. Add finishing touches such as fresh herbs, sour cream and serve.
